Is your panel installation overworking? Know when to replace it.

An electrical panel also referred to as a load center is a distribution board that divides an electrical power feed into subsidiary circuits. The basic requirement of electrical panels is during the installation of the power supply system for infrastructures both residential and commercial.
The relevance of a high quality electrical panel is the safety element associated with it. The fact that power electrocutions are avoided through installations only makes the use of panels a mandate for all buildings and structures.

Electrical panels are a subject often paid less attention to by laymen, however the repercussions surrounding this ignorance can be damaging.  It is an electrical consultant of your building who understands the importance of including an electrical panel that best suits the requirement of the user.

There are primarily 3 types of electrical panels available in the market.

  1. Main Breaker Panels – The supreme in the category of electrical panels, this type of panel controls the power of the entire structure. These type of panels also control the amperage capacity.
  1. Main Lug Panels – These types of panels are most suitable in cases of fire and other emergencies. They do not have main breaker but separate sub divisions to bifurcate the power.
  2. Sub Panels – The most planned sort of panels in terms of design are sub panels that evenly divide the power in all the areas of a single location.

However, irrespective of the quality of the panels installed, in all probability there are fair chances of them becoming obsolete after a certain point in time. Products as we know have a life beyond which they begin to underperform and cost higher to the owner. Electrical panels serve a highly indispensible purpose in home making. This is one of the crucial decisions that determines the long term safety and life of the structure. Now, most of us are oblivious to the technicalities of panels but never can that be taken up as an excuse to run away from seriousness around it. The repercussions and implications are hard to accommodate hence it is a subject that requires due attention to be given to.

It is advisable to change the panels before they become absolutely overused and drained in terms of load bearing capacity. Often the over usage is signaled by the following signs, which if taken care of in time, helps in mitigating the loss and emergencies.

  1. When the power switches flicker- Often when the lights and other electrical appliances flicker, it’s a sign of a poor performance by the electrical panel. Also when the overall voltage reduces, this can be attributed to the performance of the panel installed.

    2. When the circuit trips often – Often the circuit trips when the panels become too old and weak to bear the capacity of the power supplied to the entire structure. This is not a phenomenon happening too soon and hence if happened once or twice shouldn’t be ignored.

  2. The ability of the power panel when the electricity breaks happen – Electricity as we know is spread across the different points through wires that are controlled by the panels. Often when the power supply is erupted and then supplied again, the panels with huge capacity are able to evenly distribute electricity however the ones that are relatively old tend to either result in holdups or an uneven and faulty distribution.

These are some of the reasons why the electrical experts provide their value addition to make safer choices on behalf of the clients. Safety in today’s era is important and more challenging a concept. However with the right people, this challenge can be won over.

So the next time you plan to install an electrical panel, ensure you have experts on the table!
