Stating that an entire city is the brainchild of one design maestro would be a gross understatement for it takes several years and multiple minds to build a city. What is now visible to the naked eye has come long way from what it was years back.

We bring to you some of the most spectacular cities that have become popular for their design and built.

1. Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Considered to be the trade capital of UAE, Dubai has a history worth mentioning. Ever since the oil discovery in 1966 and the flow of income/revenue from oil in 1969, Dubai has never looked back. It is because of the huge revenues that the city earns that enables a decent investment in its infrastructure. Apart from having in particular the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, Dubai city is renowned for its Palm Jumeirah that boasts a beautiful satellite view, The Burj-Al-Arab, The Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates and many more. The city in terms of its architecture is nothing short of grandeur and perfection. The streets, the highways and the coastline is a well defined art work.

For a city that was covered in sand 5000 years ago, Dubai has travelled at a fast pace to become the most preferred city of residence in the Middle East. In the quest to become the best around the world, the city of Dubai has been designed to perfection. Dubai city has seen immense growth both in terms of infrastructure and wealth. Beginning from 1997 until now Dubai hasn’t stopped fascinating people with its architecture. The Jumeirah Beach hotel, shaped as a beach wave is a symbol of uniqueness. The Burj-Al Arab which is yet another bastion of Dubai’s landscape of iconic buildings is one of the world’s most luxurious hotels. The building is a sail shaped structure having a helipad at the top that has been the host location for numerous stunts and a tennis game of a global tournament too.
Some other noted and celebrated buildings are Princess Tower, Cayan Tower, The Mariana Torch, Atlantis The Palm, Rose Tower and the Dubai Opera. Together they make Dubai a world class city to visit and stay in.

2. Chandigarh, India

The city situated on the border of the northern states of India namely Haryana and Punjab, boasts an architecture that is both modern and contemporary. The city of Chandigarh was formed in the year 1966 by Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier who prepared the masterplan. The idea behind the plan was to create a place that demonstrates modern urban design. The city is surrounded by 3 states of India and has been sub divided into sectors. The city of Chandigarh proudly represents different facets of architecture where Government administrative buildings on one hand are contemporary artwork and markets and complexes showcase the modern design and built.
Although as much as the entire world being carried away with the spectacular design of the city, there are certain buildings and monuments that have been declared as UNESCO’s world heritage site.  The Capitol Center for instance has 3 buildings, 3 monuments and a lake spread across 100 acres of area. This site is among the world heritage site declared by UNESCO. The general layout of the city is beautiful from its High Court to the Palace of Assembly and Secretariat building,  Chandigarh never misses an opportunity to fascinate the visitors. The city also has the largest open hand sculpture located in the Capitol Complex.  It is the emblem or symbol of the Government of Chandigarh and symbolizes “the hand to give and the hand to take; peace and prosperity, and the unity of mankind”. The ideology with which the structure is made speaks volume about the creativity of the architect. Chandigarh is certainly one of best cities of modern India.

3. New York, The United States

No wonders why NYC is called the city of skyscrapers. New York City numerically has the maximum buildings touching the skyline. It is a place to look up to, like literally!
The glorification of the city cannot be accredited to one particular architect/designer but to the combined and consistent effort of many talented and creative minds that contributed towards the making of the city. The streets and the neighborhoods that are less densely populated are also an indispensible part of the design and masterplan. The building materials have been stone and brick for years yet the buildings have managed to appear different and unusual. The most distinctive feature of the majority of the city’s buildings have been the presence of wooden roof-mounted water towers.
New York City has an array of beautifully made subways, stations, bridges, towers and buildings. Some of the most visited sites in the city that attracts tourists are Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, Queensboro Bridge, Central Park, The Statue Of Liberty, Metropolitian Museum Of Art among others.

The city is a unique amalgamation of modern buildings and primitive architecture. It has a line if sub-urban dwelling which has a bent towards smooth architecture and also the tall buildings that represent the urban city culture. New York has a flavor that suits every taste bud equally. It is a city that has architecture in its veins.
